Ademola Lookman delivered a masterclass performance to earn the Man of the Match award following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Round of 16 encounter, played on Monday night in Fès, saw the Super Eagles dominate the Mambas to secure a convincing quarter-final berth, with Lookman at the heart of Nigeria’s attacking brilliance.

The Atalanta winger opened the scoring in the 20th minute after receiving a brilliant assist from Akor Adams, setting the tone for Nigeria’s commanding display. Just five minutes later, Lookman turned provider, laying on a precise assist for Victor Osimhen to double the Super Eagles’ lead.

Shortly after the restart, Lookman again showcased his creativity by setting up Osimhen for Nigeria’s third goal, barely two minutes into the second half. He completed a remarkable outing by providing yet another assist for Akor Adams, who netted the fourth goal to seal the rout.

In total, Lookman recorded one goal and three assists in the match, underlining his growing influence in the tournament. The 28-year-old has now tallied three goals and five assists in three appearances for Nigeria at AFCON 2025.

This is not the first time the former Leicester City forward has been recognised at the competition. He also won the Man of the Match award in Nigeria’s second group game against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.
With performances like this, Lookman continues to emerge as one of the Super Eagles’ standout players as Nigeria’s quest for continental glory gathers momentum.
