Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving two major federal road projects in the South-East, describing the development as a historic step towards rebuilding the region and healing long-standing infrastructure deficits.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Soludo expressed appreciation to the President for approving the roads for design and procurement, saying the projects would significantly improve connectivity within the South-East and enhance economic activities across neighbouring regions.

The governor said President Tinubu had continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of the South-East through the execution and approval of strategic infrastructure projects.

According to him, the latest approvals reinforce the administration's resolve to address decades of infrastructural challenges in the region.

"I can't contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from Dikesimba Anambra; Dikesimba Ndigbo, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," Soludo said.

He added that the President "has a date with history" and is taking deliberate steps toward reconstructing the South-East while helping to heal the wounds left by the Nigerian Civil War.

Soludo disclosed that he met with President Tinubu on July 1 to discuss critical infrastructure needs in Anambra State and the wider South-East.

He explained that shortly after the meeting, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, requested details of priority road projects that had been discussed with the President.

According to the governor, the state government submitted two strategic road proposals: the dualisation of the approximately 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji road linking Anambra State to Kogi State, and the dualisation of the about 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) road, which connects Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway while also providing access through Abia State.

Soludo said he was subsequently informed by the Minister of Works that President Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.

Describing the approval as a major milestone, the governor said the roads would serve as critical economic corridors linking the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions of the country.

He noted that the projects would boost trade, improve transportation, stimulate investment and enhance regional integration.

Soludo also commended Minister of Works David Umahi for his commitment to expanding infrastructure 
across the country and facilitating the approval process.

Reflecting on the significance of the development, the governor said the approvals demonstrate the value of constructive engagement and collaboration between governments in delivering tangible benefits to citizens.

"For me personally, this is why politics makes sense—to work collaboratively, build alliances and achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people," he said.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to the South-East, stating that history would remember him favourably for his contributions to the region's infrastructural development. "Thank you, Asiwaju. History will be kind to you," Soludo added.
