The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a breach of trust and failure of the party to honour agreements reached ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fadeyi was among several federal lawmakers, including Senator Francis Fadahunsi, Hon. Omirin Olusanya (Ijesa South Federal Constituency), Hon. Wole Oke (Ijesa North Federal Constituency) and Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro (Ife Central Federal Constituency), who defected from the PDP to the APC in February 2026.

While the other defectors reportedly secured automatic tickets to contest their respective seats under the APC, Fadeyi was denied the same opportunity. He later contested the party's senatorial primary but lost to Kunle Adegoke, SAN.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Senate President, a copy of which was obtained by journalists on Thursday, the senator said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home, which falls within Osun Central Senatorial District.

According to him, he accepted the party's invitation based on assurances that he would be granted the sole APC ticket for the senatorial seat, an understanding he believed had the backing of President Tinubu and would be respected by the party leadership.

However, Fadeyi alleged that the APC leadership in Osun State failed to honour the agreement, creating what he described as serious trust issues that made his continued membership of the party impossible.

He stated that it had been agreed that candidates would emerge through a consensus process but claimed that no genuine consensus was conducted and that the primary election lacked transparency and fairness.

The senator further expressed disappointment that while three members of the House of Representatives and another serving senator who defected alongside him were returned as candidates, he was denied the party's ticket despite his electoral record.

Fadeyi noted that he earned the mandate of the people of Osun Central after defeating an incumbent APC senator in the 2023 general election and expected his loyalty, performance and political value to be fairly recognised.

Despite his exit from the APC, the lawmaker stressed that his decision was not a rejection of President Tinubu or his administration.

He reaffirmed his support for the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying his resignation was driven by his commitment to democratic principles, fairness, mutual trust and respect for political agreements.

Fadeyi also said he owed a responsibility to protect the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Osun Central, adding that his decision was made in line with the wishes and aspirations of his constituents.

He thanked the APC leadership and members for the opportunity to serve in the party and wished them well in their future endeavours before announcing that he had officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
