The Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) has announced the commencement of recruitment for suitably qualified candidates into various cadres of the Authority.
According to the recruitment announcement signed by the Director of Administration, Onomroba Irene, the exercise is open to eligible indigenes of Delta State who meet the stipulated educational, physical and other requirements.
The positions available include Road Traffic Officer, Road Traffic Superintendent and Traffic Assistant.
Available Positions and Qualifications
Candidates with B.Sc, B.Eng or B.A. (Hons.) qualifications may apply for the Traffic Officer II position at Grade Level 08, while holders of HND may be considered for Higher Traffic Superintendent II, also at Grade Level 08.
Applicants with ND qualifications can apply for the Assistant Traffic Superintendent position at Grade Level 06, while candidates with WAEC, GCE, NECO or NABTEB qualifications may apply for the Traffic Assistant cadre at Grade Level 04.
The Authority listed several eligible degree and HND disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Transportation Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Criminology, Security Studies, Accountancy, Statistics, Business Administration, English Language/Linguistics, Mass Communication, Sociology, Psychology and Music, among other relevant disciplines.
For Mass Communication applicants, the announcement specifically mentioned areas such as Graphic Design, Digital Media and Information Communication Technology.
Traffic Assistant Applicants
Candidates applying under the Traffic Assistant category are required to possess a First School Leaving Certificate and a Senior Secondary School Certificate such as WAEC, GCE, NECO or NABTEB.
Applicants must have at least four credits at one sitting or five credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics.
The Authority also listed eligible trades and crafts, including light-duty Driver/Mechanic, heavy-duty/Truck Driver/Mechanic, Plumber, Electrician, Uniform Tailor and Day & Night Security Guard, among others.
For candidates applying under the trade/craft categories, Trade Test I, II or III is mandatory.
General Requirements
DESTMA stated that applicants must be indigenes of Delta State, be of good character and possess a valid Local Government Area certificate of origin.
Applicants must also be medically and physically fit and have no criminal record or affiliation with any cult group.
Candidates applying for graduate positions must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme or possess a valid exemption certificate. Graduate applicants are also required to be computer literate.
The stated age limit for applicants is 16 to 40 years.
The recruitment notice further states that shortlisted female applicants who are pregnant must produce a pregnancy test certificate from a government hospital.

DESTMA emphasized that the recruitment exercise is 100 per cent free of charge and warned applicants against dealing with agents or individuals demanding money.
Interested candidates are required to submit their information and credentials through the Authority's recruitment portal at www.destma.ng.
The application deadline is Monday, September 7, 2026, with the recruitment exercise commencing from August 10, 2026.
Documents Required for Interview
Shortlisted candidates are expected to come for the interview with hard copies or computer printouts and photocopies of relevant documents, including:
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Educational certificates and qualifications
NYSC certificate, where applicable
Birth certificate or declaration of age
Two passport photographs
Valid means of identification, including NIN
Valid driver's licence for applicants seeking Motor Driver/Mechanic positions
Guarantor's form with two referees
DESTMA also warned that any certificate or qualification not declared during recruitment cannot subsequently be presented for career progression within the Authority.
The Authority cautioned that canvassing will lead to disqualification and stated that it would not be responsible for any cash transaction connected with the recruitment exercise.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for the interview.
