ADC Dismisses APC Defection Claims, Says Party Beyond Saving

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that key members of the ADC will soon defect to the ruling party, describing the statement as a sign of desperation.

This follows a declaration by APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, at a stakeholders' meeting in Jos, where he announced that prominent figures from the ADC would be joining the APC in the coming week.

In a swift response, the ADC criticized the ruling party, saying no amount of political defections would save the APC from the consequences of its performance since coming to power.

According to a statement released by the ADC on Monday, the party accused the APC of using defections as a distraction from what it described as widespread failure in governance and the hardship facing ordinary Nigerians.

“The APC remains the most disliked political party in Nigeria today. It has overseen the destruction of livelihoods and plunged millions into poverty,” the statement read.

The ADC further said that recent defections into the APC are widely seen by Nigerians as part of a political arrangement by the elite for self-preservation rather than in the interest of the people.

The party also challenged the APC chairman to name the supposed “key ADC figures” expected to defect, calling the announcement vague and misleading.

“If these individuals are truly key members of our party, their names should not be hidden. The APC should come clean,” the ADC stated.

The opposition party concluded by warning that the ruling party was repeating the same political mistakes that led to the downfall of the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The APC will soon learn that real political power lies with the people, not with politicians switching parties,” the statement added.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the political climate continues to intensify, as parties position themselves and battle for public support amid growing dissatisfaction with the current administration.
