Delta IRS, Nigerian Air Force to Collaborate on Tax Compliance Enforcement

The Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS), Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, has disclosed that the Service is set to collaborate with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to strengthen enforcement and compliance efforts among tax defaulters in the state.

Hon. Ighrakpata made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Commander, 3144 Operating Base, Nigerian Air Force, Warri, Group Captain Charles Abara, and his team to the DSIRS headquarters in Warri.

According to the Revenue Chairman, the partnership has become necessary due to challenges encountered by tax officials in certain areas where defaulters are allegedly shielded by armed military personnel, making enforcement and compliance drives difficult.

“The support of the Air Force is mostly required in situations where residences of tax defaulters are protected by armed personnel who intimidate and scare away officers of the Service during enforcement exercises,” Ighrakpata stated.

He further emphasized that collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force aligns with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly in the area of enhancing peace and security, which he described as critical to effective revenue generation.

Earlier in his remarks, Group Captain Charles Abara expressed the Nigerian Air Force’s readiness to work with the Delta State Internal Revenue Service to ensure improved service delivery in the collection of taxes and levies.

He noted that the primary responsibility of the Nigerian Air Force is the protection of lives and property, as well as the security of the nation’s environment, stressing that revenue generation and security are closely linked.

“There is a clear nexus between security and revenue, which makes collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and the Revenue Service both necessary and beneficial,” Abara said.

The Air Force Commander also explained that the visit was aimed at familiarizing himself with the Revenue Chairman and his management team, noting that he was newly deployed to the state and area.

The proposed partnership is expected to enhance compliance enforcement and create a more secure environment for revenue operations across Delta State.
