Dangote Reduces Cooking Gas Price To ₦760/kg

There is a fresh wave of relief for Nigerians as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has once again reduced the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, to ₦760 per kilogram, down from ₦810 just last week.

The latest reduction marks Dangote’s second major price slash in less than a month, reinforcing the company’s growing reputation as a stabilizing force in Nigeria’s domestic energy market.

According to reports, Dangote’s ex-depot price now stands far lower than those of other major suppliers — Matrix and Ardova depots sell at ₦920/kg, A.Y.M Shafa and NIPCO at ₦910/kg, while Stockgap Depot still sells for as high as ₦950/kg.

The price gap, which ranges from ₦150 to ₦190 per kilogram, underscores Dangote’s market influence and its role in driving down energy costs nationwide.

Experts in the petroleum sector believe that this move is a strategic effort to reshape market dynamics and discourage unwarranted price hikes by competing depots. They note that by setting a lower benchmark, Dangote is effectively pushing for greater affordability and energy access for ordinary Nigerians.

Energy analysts also link this development to Dangote’s broader mission of boosting domestic energy supply, reducing reliance on imports, and supporting the federal government’s clean energy transition agenda.

While many Nigerians have expressed excitement over the refinery’s decision, residents of Kwale and surrounding communities say the price reduction has not yet reflected in local markets. As of today, Kwale residents still buy cooking gas at ₦1,200 per kilogram, nearly ₦440 higher than the new ex-depot rate.

Speaking to Kwale Post, a local trader at Umusadege Market lamented, “We hear Dangote has reduced the price again, but the retailers here still sell at ₦1,200. We hope this new change will reach us soon.”

If sustained and properly monitored, the Dangote Refinery’s consistent price reductions could stabilize Nigeria’s cooking gas market, encourage more households to adopt LPG over firewood and charcoal, and contribute significantly to environmental protection and public health improvement.
