Kwale — Petrol prices have surged in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, with major filling stations now dispensing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for ₦1,250 per litre, following the recent upward review of depot prices by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery

A visit by Kwale Post to several stations in the town, including Rainoil Limited, showed that the new pump price has taken effect, leaving motorists and transport operators worried about the rising cost of transportation and living.

The increase comes after the refinery raised its gantry price for petrol to ₦1,175 per litre, prompting marketers across the country to adjust their retail prices in response to the higher cost of supply.

Motorists queued at filling stations in Kwale expressed concern that the development would further strain household budgets already affected by inflation.

A commercial driver in the town said the new fuel price may force transport operators to review fares.

 “We cannot continue like this. If petrol keeps increasing, transport fares will also increase because we must cover our costs,” he said.

Industry observers warn that rising petrol prices often have a ripple effect on the wider economy, pushing up the cost of goods, transportation, and other essential services.

The situation reflects the current realities of Nigeria’s deregulated petroleum sector, where pump prices fluctuate based on supply costs, market conditions, and global oil market trends.

For residents of Kwale and surrounding communities, the latest increase signals tougher days ahead as transportation costs and the prices of basic commodities are expected to rise further in the coming weeks.
