Court Jails Woman for Assaulting BEDC Staff in Benin City

The Magistrate Court sitting at Benin has sentenced one Dorcas Otitodun to three months in prison for assaulting a staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Mr. Moshood Abiola.
The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, when Otitodun physically attacked Abiola while he was carrying out his official duties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, BEDC Electricity Plc commended the judgment, describing it as a strong message that violence against its personnel will not be tolerated.
“Our staff work tirelessly to serve our communities, and their safety is non-negotiable. We urge customers to seek lawful solutions, not violence, when aggrieved,” BEDC stated.
The company also appreciated the Nigerian judiciary for what it described as a bold step in upholding justice and protecting workers in the power sector.
