Two Anambra Schools to Receive Cash Prizes at AMTY Awards

Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, and St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, have been named the Best Public School and Best Private School, respectively, at the fifth edition of the Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards.

The two institutions will be honoured during the AMTY Awards ceremony in Awka, where they will also receive cash prizes donated by an Anambra philanthropist to support the development and equipping of their school libraries.

The AMTY Awards, organised by the 100 Achievers Organisation, is a privately driven initiative that recognises outstanding individuals, institutions and brands whose achievements have contributed to the development and positive image of Anambra State.

The organisers announced the selections in separate nomination letters signed by the Chairman of the AMTY 5th Edition Planning Committee, Rev. Sr. Prof. Eugenia Adaoma Igwedibia, and the Director of Media and Communication, Dr. Emeka Odogwu.

According to the organisers, the schools were selected after a careful assessment of their outstanding academic performance, commitment to educational excellence, leadership in learning and consistent success in national and international competitions.

Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, was recognised as the Best Public School for its sustained record of academic excellence, robust extracurricular programmes and the remarkable achievements of its students on both national and global stages.

The school has earned widespread recognition over the years for its exceptional performance in academics, science, debate, entrepreneurship and sports.

Among its notable accomplishments are victories at the Malaysia International Debate Championship, the National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards, the Milo Basketball Championship, and the WAEC/Vatebra Merit Award for outstanding performance in science subjects and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The school has also distinguished itself in the InterswitchSPAK competition, regional science contests and received the Hallmark of Labour Foundation Award for excellence.

St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, was selected as the Best Private School in recognition of its outstanding academic achievements, commitment to leadership development and impressive representation of Nigeria in several international competitions.

Despite being one of the younger secondary schools in Anambra State, the institution has built a strong reputation for excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), robotics, entrepreneurship, mathematics and debate.

Its students have emerged champions in several prestigious competitions, including the Diamond Challenge Entrepreneurship Competition, where they represented Nigeria in the United States.

The college also won the inaugural Girls in ICT Competition organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, emerged overall winners at the AI in HealthTech Exhibition hosted by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and recently claimed victory at the maiden UK-Nigeria Debate Competition.

The organisers said both schools have consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to nurturing young talents, promoting innovation and maintaining high educational standards that continue to inspire excellence across the state.

They added that the institutions have become models of quality education and have contributed significantly to enhancing Anambra State's reputation as a centre of academic excellence.

According to the organisers, the AMTY Awards have grown into one of the state's foremost platforms for recognising excellence, celebrating outstanding achievements and encouraging individuals and institutions whose contributions continue to advance the development of Anambra State.
