The Delta State Government has announced that all public and private secondary schools across the state will reopen on Monday, September 8, 2025, for the commencement of first term academic activities.
In a statement issued by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Schools, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, on behalf of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, boarders are expected to resume a day earlier, on Sunday, September 7.
According to the statement, teaching and learning will begin immediately after resumption on Monday, following the usual classroom cleaning exercise to be supervised by teachers.
The Ministry recalled that school heads and teachers were directed to resume on Monday, September 1, to undertake administrative preparations, including the admission of new students.
Teachers and principals were urged to comply fully with the resumption directive and work with dedication to ensure effective implementation of the school calendar.
Mrs. Ezewu further disclosed that she would personally lead officials of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education on a monitoring exercise to ensure compliance. She also warned against absenteeism among staff and students, emphasizing that the state government would not condone unauthorized absence from school duties.
