Editorial Board - The Ndokwa nation stands at a crossroads—between years of waiting and the promise of justice long denied. For decades, the Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP) has generated electricity that lights up homes and industries across Nigeria, yet the very communities that host this massive facility remain trapped in darkness.
It is a bitter irony that a land so rich in oil, gas, and energy resources is still struggling with unreliable power supply. Small businesses depend on noisy, expensive generators, students study by candlelight, and industries avoid investing where power is uncertain. The result is stunted growth and a widening sense of neglect.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is about inclusiveness and fairness. The truest test of that vision is whether his administration can ensure a step-down of electricity in Kwale, so that Ndokwa people directly benefit from the power they help produce. This is not just an infrastructural project—it is a symbol of justice, equity, and renewed hope.
A functional step-down will change the economic landscape of Ndokwa. It will power agro-processing industries, create jobs for young people, reduce the cost of doing business, and improve the quality of life for families. Beyond economics, it will restore confidence in government and strengthen the bond between leaders and the people.
We call on Governor Oborevwori to seize this moment. By championing the IPP step-down in Kwale, he can write a new chapter in Delta’s development story—one that ensures the light produced in Ndokwa finally shines in Ndokwa.
