Evans Ufeli Esq, has refuted recent statements made by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, regarding alleged violence during a recent peaceful protest.

The Deputy Governor, in his comments, questioned the definition of a “peaceful protest,” citing incidents such as the alleged beating of a serving Commissioner, the destruction of four vehicles, extortion of motorists, and personal attacks on social media.

Quoting Onyeme:

However, Ufeli dismissed these allegations as unsubstantiated, insisting that no such acts of violence occurred. He stressed the importance of credible evidence and accurate reporting when addressing sensitive incidents in the community.

“Without proof, such broad and unverified statements risk sowing discord and escalating tensions,” Ufeli said. “Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, and while isolated incidents can occur, they should not be used to misrepresent the collective intentions of the people.”

He challenged the Deputy Governor to present concrete evidence to support his claims and called for open dialogue and mutual respect between government officials and the public.

The protest in question was reportedly organised to draw attention to pressing community grievances, with organisers maintaining that the demonstration was peaceful and within the law.
