Peter Obi Visits Aba, Meets ADC Stakeholders, Praises Otti’s Development Drive

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Saturday, March 28, visited Aba in Abia State, where he honoured an invitation by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and held strategic discussions with stakeholders of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).

During the visit, Obi expressed appreciation to Senator Abaribe and his team for what he described as a warm and cordial reception. He also commended the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for ongoing developmental efforts in Aba, popularly known as Enyimba City.

“I thank Senator Abaribe and his team for the warm reception and Governor Alex Otti for the good work he has done in Enyimba City,” Obi stated.

As part of his engagements, Obi granted a one-hour interview on Magic FM, marking his first radio and television appearance for the year 2026. He noted that the interaction provided an opportunity to further share his vision for Nigeria’s economic transformation.

Obi also expressed gratitude to ADC stakeholders for their hospitality and the productive dialogue held during the meeting.
Speaking on economic reforms, the former Anambra State governor reiterated his long-standing position on transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one. He identified Aba as a critical hub capable of driving this transformation, particularly in garment and footwear manufacturing.

“Aba remains one of the cities that will contribute immensely to moving Nigeria from consumption to production, as it is home to thriving garment and shoe industries,” he said.

Drawing comparisons with global economies, Obi noted that countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam generate substantial revenue from garments and footwear respectively—sectors he believes Nigeria can also harness effectively with the right policies and support.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s primary challenge remains the need for competent leadership characterized by capacity, compassion, and commitment to national development, similar to what is obtainable in other progressive nations.

Obi concluded with a message of hope, reaffirming his belief in the nation’s potential.
“A New Nigeria is Possible,” he declared.
