Former presidential candidate and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education and healthcare sectors as the foundation for poverty reduction and national development.
Obi made this known on Friday, November 7, during a visit to the construction site of the Annunciation Hospital College of Nursing Sciences in Emene, Enugu State — a tertiary health institution founded by the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation.
During the visit, Obi commended the Congregation for its compassion, dedication, and sustained investment in the training of healthcare professionals. He urged them to remain steadfast in their mission to raise competent and humane practitioners who would contribute meaningfully to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
As part of his continued support, Obi announced an additional donation of ₦20 million, bringing his total financial contribution to the construction and equipping of the institution to ₦120 million.
Obi stressed that no nation can attain true prosperity without prioritising education and healthcare. He emphasized that these sectors are critical for empowering citizens, building human capital, and reducing poverty.
“We cannot build a truly prosperous nation without prioritising these critical areas of development. The journey to a New Nigeria must be anchored on education, healthcare, and poverty eradication,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed his belief that sustained investment in human development remains the most effective path toward building a strong, productive, and globally competitive nation.
He concluded with his familiar mantra, reassuring Nigerians that “A New Nigeria is POssible.
