Warri, Sept. 4, 2025 — The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has reiterated its commitment to driving sustainable grassroots development across the state.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, who represents Ukwuani Constituency, gave the charge on Wednesday during an oversight visit to the Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Councils. The visit is part of the Committee’s tour of all 25 local government areas in the state.

Hon. Dafe urged council chairmen to prioritize people-oriented projects and programmes in line with the “Renewed Hope for More” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“The committee’s mandate is to ensure that federal allocations to councils are translated into visible and impactful projects on the ground,” Dafe stated. “We will continue to insist on quality standards in project execution for the benefit of our people.”

Dafe was accompanied on the visit by fellow lawmakers Hon. James Augoye, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Hon. Oboro Preyor, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. Fred Martins, Hon. Austin Uroye, and Hon. Isaac Anwuzia.

Commending the council chairmen for their leadership, Dafe emphasized that oversight visits are not only for accountability but also to encourage and support councils in delivering on their mandates.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, described the lawmakers’ visit as a welcome development, noting that it would inspire his administration to do more for residents. He highlighted some of his administration’s achievements, including the completion of 38 new shops at Igbudu Market and the reconstruction of sections destroyed by fire.

On his part, Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Hon. Anthony Ofoni, said his administration’s projects were people-driven and designed to meet pressing community needs. He pointed to the construction of a state-of-the-art cottage hospital to provide affordable healthcare, as well as a 250-unit modern market complex with abattoir and cold rooms to boost trade and commerce.

Both chairmen expressed gratitude to the legislators for the visit, pledging continued commitment to projects that would uplift the lives of their people.

The Committee is expected to continue its oversight visits to other local government councils in the coming weeks.
