The hope of restoring steady electricity to communities across Ndokwa Nation received a major boost as the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the apex sociocultural body of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, held a strategic meeting with the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, OFR. The engagement, facilitated by Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, has been widely hailed as a significant breakthrough toward actualizing the long-awaited IPP Power Stepdown project.
According to information obtained by journalists, the meeting was highly productive and marked a decisive turning point in efforts to address years of electricity neglect in the region. Discussions were centered on resolving bureaucratic bottlenecks and accelerating the implementation of the IPP Stepdown (Sub-station) project, which has suffered repeated delays despite substantial government investment.
One of the key resolutions from the meeting is the reaffirmation that the IPP Stepdown project will not be abandoned. The Federal Government, which has funded the project 100% through a Letter of Credit, cited bureaucratic delays and pending approvals for certain components as the primary factors slowing progress. The Minister assured stakeholders that all outstanding approvals would be secured before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
In another crucial development, it was agreed that power supply can commence using available megawatts from IPP Phase 1, eliminating the need to wait for the completion of Phase 2. This, stakeholders believe, will significantly fast-track the delivery of electricity to Ndokwa communities. Efforts will also be intensified to ensure that the remaining work on the sub-station is captured and funded under the 2026 national budget.
Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, speaking after the meeting, expressed renewed optimism and described the engagement as a major step forward for the constituency. He announced that the dialogue with the Minister of Power, held on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, was fruitful and reflective of the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to improving power infrastructure in historically marginalized areas.
Ezechi thanked the people of Ndokwa Nation for their resilience and assured them that the long-awaited dreams of stable power supply were closer than ever. He emphasized that electricity remains vital to community development and pledged to continue working tirelessly to ensure Ndokwa receives what is due. He also extended appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Oyeme, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for their continued support toward the region’s development.
