The Human Rights Pathfinders Association (HURPA) has launched a self-service reporting portal aimed at strengthening access to justice and improving the documentation of human rights violations across Nigeria.

The platform, now live at https://hurpa.org.ng/report-case, allows citizens to directly submit complaints of rights abuses, including unlawful detention, police misconduct, gender-based violence, and other forms of injustice.

Speaking on the initiative, Comrade Ejikeme Eloka Augustine, Executive director of HURPA emphasized that the digital portal is designed to remove barriers that often prevent victims from seeking help. According to the organization, many Nigerians are unable to report violations due to fear, distance, lack of legal knowledge, or financial constraints. The new system, it said, provides a confidential and user-friendly channel to bridge that gap.

HURPA noted that the platform will enable its legal and advocacy teams to respond more swiftly, track cases efficiently, and engage relevant authorities where necessary. It added that the initiative aligns with its broader mission to promote accountability, protect civil liberties, and ensure that justice is accessible to all Nigerians.

Beyond reporting cases, the association also called on well-meaning Nigerians, civil society groups, and the international community to support its work through donations and volunteer participation. It stressed that sustained advocacy and legal intervention require collective effort and adequate resources.

“Our platform is positioned to advocate for all Nigerians whose rights have been violated. We encourage citizens not to remain silent but to speak up using this portal,” the organization stated.

HURPA further encouraged legal practitioners, human rights defenders, and volunteers to join its network in advancing the protection of fundamental rights nationwide.

The launch of the portal comes amid growing concerns over human rights challenges in the country, with stakeholders increasingly calling for innovative solutions to improve reporting, transparency, and justice delivery.

Observers say the initiative could mark a significant step toward empowering victims and strengthening civic engagement in the protection of human rights in Nigeria.
