FRSC Launches 2025 Ember Months Campaign, Warns Against Distracted Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially commenced its 2025 Ember Months Public Enlightenment Campaign with a strong call on motorists to “Take Responsibility For Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving.”

The campaign, which was flagged off simultaneously across major locations in the Federal Capital Territory — including Jabi, Zuba, and Gwarimpa Motor Parks — marks a renewed national effort to curb road traffic crashes during the busy festive period.

Leading the exercise, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Olusegun Ogungbemide, mni, said the initiative underscores the FRSC’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of responsible driving and ensuring safer roads for all Nigerians.

According to Ogungbemide, the Corps is particularly concerned about the rising cases of distracted driving, often caused by mobile phone use, fatigue, and reckless overtaking. He stressed that the theme of this year’s campaign — “Take Responsibility For Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving” — was deliberately chosen to remind every road user that safety begins with individual choices and discipline.

“We want every driver and passenger to understand that their safety is in their own hands. Avoid distractions, obey traffic rules, and look out for others on the road. When you take responsibility, you contribute to reducing crashes and saving lives,” Ogungbemide said.

The event featured educational talks, distribution of safety leaflets, and interactive sessions with transport union leaders and park officials. Motorists were also sensitized on the dangers of speeding, driving under the influence, and neglecting vehicle maintenance.

The FRSC emphasized that its Ember Months operations this year will combine public enlightenment, enforcement, and collaboration with key transport stakeholders across the country.

As the festive season approaches, the Corps reiterated its appeal for calm and caution on Nigerian roads, assuring citizens that officers would be strategically deployed nationwide to ensure free flow of traffic and prompt response to emergencies.
