FCT Police Name Four Officers Accused of Extorting ₦52,000 From ICPC Chairman

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has identified the four police officers detained for allegedly extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

The officers were accused of abandoning their assigned duty posts and carrying out an unauthorised traffic enforcement operation at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja, where they allegedly extorted money from the ICPC chairman without knowing his identity.

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers were identified as ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja, and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.

According to the police spokesperson, the officers stopped a motorist during the unauthorised traffic operation on allegations of violating traffic regulations and allegedly extorted ₦52,000 from him.

"The victim was subsequently identified as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN)," the statement said.

Following the complaint, Commissioner of Police Sanusi ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial.

The officers are being investigated for allegedly abandoning their lawful duty posts, conducting unauthorised traffic enforcement and engaging in extortion.

The FCT Police Command said disciplinary proceedings have commenced against the officers in accordance with established police regulations, reiterating its commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel.
