Delta State Government is set to unveil a comprehensive, technology-driven Criminal Information System (CIS) designed to capture biometric data and complete criminal records of offenders across all stages of the justice process.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, disclosed this during the fourth-quarter meeting of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) held in Asaba.
According to Ohwovoriole, the CIS will store detailed biometric records including fingerprints, eye colour, and full criminal profiles of individualsāwhether arraigned, awaiting trial, being prosecuted, convicted, or in custody. He explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevworiās MORE Agenda, aimed at strengthening security, enhancing transparency, and modernizing justice-sector operations.
He further noted that implementation has already commenced, with the system expected to become fully operational within the next three months. When fully deployed, the CIS will support policing, prosecution, and long-term applications such as background verification, employment screening, passport processing, and identity authentication.
LOAN National President, Comrade Ernest Edomwonyi, commended law officers for their commitment to upholding justice in challenging conditions. He also advocated key reforms within the justice sector, including improved welfare packages, better work environments, and continuous professional development to equip officers for modern legal demands.
The introduction of the CIS is expected to significantly enhance crime detection, case management, and overall efficiency within Delta Stateās justice and security systems.
