Delta Government, PTI Collaborate to Boost Youth Skills in Oil and Gas Sector

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Delta State Government on international oil and gas training programmes aimed at equipping youths with employable skills and fostering economic growth in the state.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba, on Tuesday by the Principal and Chief Executive Officer of PTI, Dr. Samuel Onoji. He highlighted the Institute’s plan to offer discounted and subsidised international trainings to enhance the employability of Delta youths in the oil and gas industry.

Dr. Onoji also commended Governor Oborevwori’s infrastructural drive, describing it as unprecedented, and appreciated the government’s efforts in reconnecting electricity to the Institute. He extended an invitation to the Governor to attend PTI’s International Hydrocarbons and Scientific Conference, scheduled for October at the PTDF Hall, Abuja.

Governor Oborevwori, in his remarks, praised PTI and the Minister of Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobri, for releasing 25 hectares of land to the Delta State Government, describing the gesture as a strong commitment to the state’s growth.

“PTI is very dear to us in Delta because it opened the door for other federal government establishments to come into our state. We don’t take anything concerning PTI lightly. Your visit today demonstrates your commitment, and I assure you that this government will continue to support the Institute in all its endeavours,” the Governor said.

In support of the Institute, Governor Oborevwori approved the donation of a Coaster bus and an 18-seater Hiace bus to meet the mobility needs of PTI staff and students.

Established in 1972, PTI is widely regarded as Africa’s foremost petroleum training institute, mandated to train and retrain skilled manpower for the oil and gas industry. The partnership with the Delta Government is expected to provide young people with practical skills to participate meaningfully in the sector.
