Cross River Police Investigate Death of Woman Found in Church Toilet

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the death of Blessing Ayebe, whose body was discovered inside a toilet facility at a church in the Ikot Ansa area of Calabar.
The deceased was reportedly found at about 9 p.m. on Monday, several days after she was declared missing by her family.

According to available information, Ayebe attended a church service at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria on Saturday, June 28, but did not return home afterwards.
Her disappearance was first noticed by her son, Saviour Ayebe, who alerted family members. Her daughter, Peace Ayebe, subsequently reported the matter to the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar on Tuesday, July 1.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Cross River State Command, Sunday Eitokpah, said the command had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
He disclosed that the body had been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy to establish the cause of death.

"The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the cause of death. No suspect has been identified or arrested at this stage, as there is presently no evidence of foul play," Eitokpah said.

He added that investigations were ongoing and that the police would provide further updates as more information becomes available.

It was also gathered that the deceased's remains have been deposited at the mortuary of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital pending the outcome of the autopsy.
As of the time of filing this report, investigators had not established the exact cause or time of death, nor how long the body may have remained inside the church facility before it was discovered.
