A coalition of prominent northern politicians and political stakeholders has announced plans to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group, known as Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), is being structured with chapters across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, with a formal unveiling expected in Abuja in the coming days. Zonal and state inaugurations are also expected to follow.
The development was announced in a statement by the group's Head of Media Relations, Edwin Olofu, in Abuja.
The organisation's leadership includes former governors, serving and former senators, ministers and other political stakeholders.
At the top of the structure is a 14-member Board of Trustees, chaired by former Kano State Governor and former Minister of Education, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
Former Yobe State Governor and Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam, and former Plateau State Governor and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Bako Lalong, are listed as deputy chairmen of the board.
Other members of the board include Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Senator Joshua Dariye, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd.), Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Isa Yuguda, Reverend Jolly Nyame, Senator Atiku Bagudu, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Aishatu Dukku and Binta Ibrahim.
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar is listed as the Board's secretary, with Abubakar Gambo serving as his assistant.
The group's national operations will be coordinated by a National Directorate, with Badaru Abubakar serving as Director-General.
He will be supported by three deputy national coordinators representing the three northern geopolitical zones: Ibrahim Shema for the North-West, Yahaya Bello for the North-Central and Abdulrazaq Namdas for the North-East.
The organisation has also created several directorates covering areas such as finance and resource mobilisation, operations and logistics, communications, grassroots mobilisation, youth affairs, business and professional groups, religious communities, civil society, parliamentary mobilisation, research and strategy, ICT, women mobilisation and traditional institutions.
Other departments will focus on students, academics, creative and entertainment industries, as well as liaison with civil servants and eminent personalities.
Among those assigned responsibilities in the various directorates are Senator Sani Musa, Ali Nuhu, Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman, Engineer Khalil Suleiman Halilu, Hajiya Iman Suleiman and several other political and professional figures.
The group has also appointed coordinators for its state-level structures across the northern region and the FCT.
The named coordinators include Alosius Babadoke for Adamawa, Nura Manu Soro for Bauchi, Emmanuel Jime for Benue, Abubakar Inuwa Kari for Gombe, Aminu Sani Gumel for Jigawa, Ahmed Maiyaki for Kaduna and Abdullahi T. Gwarzo for Kano.
Others are Muttaqa Rabe Darma for Katsina, Shehu Sarki Kebbi-Jega for Kebbi, Mohammed Yahaya Kuta for Niger, Yakubu Dati for Plateau, Isa Sadiq Acida for Sokoto, John Musa for Taraba, Muhammed Jami'u A. Asuku for Kogi, Nuruddeen Imam for Kwara, Ahmed Musa for Nasarawa, Muhammed Goni Maulud for Borno, Sulaiman Isyaku for Yobe, Lawal M. Liman for Zamfara and Shitu Mohammed Kabir for the FCT.
The A4A structure is expected to serve as a northern mobilisation platform for Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign, with its activities extending from the national level to zonal, state and grassroots structures.
The formal unveiling in Abuja is expected to be followed by the inauguration of the group's structures across the northern states and the FCT.
