Governor Oborevwori Urges Local Leaders to Support Corps Members in Delta State

Issele-Uku, Delta State – August 20, 2025 — The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, and other stakeholders to provide unwavering support to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state.

The governor made the call during the terminal parade and official closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch 'B' Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area. Governor Oborevwori was represented at the event by the Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakiriowei.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the welfare, safety, and development of corps members, the governor noted that deliberate efforts were being made to upgrade infrastructure at the Issele-Uku camp to ensure it remains a model facility in the country.

“As a government, we remain firmly committed to your welfare, safety, and success,” Governor Oborevwori said.
 “Delta State is known for its warmth, hospitality, and inclusiveness. As you proceed to your places of primary assignment, I assure you of the support and goodwill of our people.”

He encouraged corps members to immerse themselves in their host communities with respect and openness, embracing cultural values and traditions, even when different from their own.
The governor stressed that the success of the NYSC scheme depends not only on the corps members’ dedication but also on the active collaboration of local leaders and communities.

“I call on Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, and Stakeholders to support our Corps Members to enable them succeed,” he added.
 “Together, we can bring out the best in them and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state.”

A major highlight of the event was the symbolic flag-off of a palm tree planting initiative, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and agricultural awareness among corps members. The exercise was also led by Barr. Trakiriowei, who represented the governor.

The event drew participation from top NYSC officials, state dignitaries, and community representatives, all expressing optimism for a productive and safe service year for the new corps members.
